Above is a typical setup example with the XG12ST and a Stereo microphone with an XLR 5-pin output. A stereo setup of two microphones combined to a 5-pin with the appropriate "Y" cable is also possible. The secondary output is completely isolated from the main loop and its phantom power. A nice scenario for practical use: Allows two separate users to share a single high quality stereo microphone such as a Schoeps CMXY 4V which may have ideal placement for sound capture at a concert. It is also great for a performer who uses a stereo microphone onstage for sound pickup of his or her instrument. An acoustic guitarist, for example can use a single stereo microphone to simoultaneously record his or her performance to their personal digital recorder and send the signal to the house sound PA without a sound-quality compromise.

Above is another common setup example with the XG12ST and a Stereo microphone. A stereo setup of two microphones combined to a 5-pin with the appropriate "Y" cable is again also possible. The microphone here has its primary output going to a professional Hard Disc or CF recorder like a Sound Devices 702 which is also supplying the 48V phantom power. The stereo signal from the secondary output can go to another recorder such as a miniature CF unit or a minidisc with a 3.5mm TRS microphone input. You can just "tap-off" the main and not have to worry about the lack of phantom power in the miniature recorder, or furthermore, its insufficient phantom power specification which is very common. The addition of an XLR 5-pin to 3.5mm TRS mini cable (shown) is needed.
