Beyond fur covering and screening, there are two key elements to their improved performance; the increased internal dead-air space around the microphone as a result of their larger diameter and that they completely enclose the microphone.

 

The Rycote S-Series incorporates crucial elements from our industry leading Full Modular Windshield System with a simplified design approach. The end result is an effective microphone windshield product in a user-friendly format that comes in an economical price point. S-Series Windshields have been engineered to provide excellent audio transparency while being tough enough for relentless use in harsh outdoor environments.

  • suspension element of the S-seriesThe suspension element of the S-series was the first product to use our patented "Lyre" suspension web, which is a revolutionary non-elastic microphone suspension. The lyre design, now used across our entire range of products gives ideal isolation for all cylindrical axial microphones. Unlike rubber or elastic suspensions the materials used in the lyres are unaffected by temperature, do not deteriorate and are all-but unbreakable. Every size S-Series Windshield is based around one single suspension.
  • S-Series Lyres will hold cylindrical microphones with diameters ranging 19mm to 25mm and a max length of 400mm (16”).
  • The snap-fit Lyres and cable clamps can be moved to different areas on the suspension bar allowing ideal balancing of many microphones. (30mm Lyres are not available for S-Series)
  • The S-series WindshieldThe S-series Windshield is made from two "Pods" being snap-fitted to the suspension central chassis ring. The Pods have screening and an integral fur cover built onto a rigid internal frame. The S-series Pods are lightweight & made from extremely tough materials, which are strong enough to withstand all the rigors of ENG and Film recording environments. This design gives a no-frills element to using the product.
  • There are 4 Pod sizes 125mm, 150mm, 180mm & 225mm arranged and combined into five S-Series Kits to choose from. Extra Pods can be purchased individually for versatility.
  • The suspension with the pods removed makes a great choice for indoor use. In addition, most microphones can be cantilevered in the S-Series suspension and used with a standard foam windscreen for mild wind applications.
  • S-Series Windshields in general can provide up to 28 dB of wind noise attenuation.
  • Each S-Series includes a high quality 20” XLR mic tail cable for added isolation from cable borne noise. Only the highest quality materials are used including low noise cable and genuine Neutrik connectors.

How to choose the correct size Rycote S-Series Windshield for your microphone:

1. The cylindrical diameter of your microphone needs to be in the range of 19mm to 25mm.

2. Obtain the length of your microphone in millimeters and add 50mm (5cm) for the additional length of the XLR connector plugged into it.

EXAMPLE: a Rode NTG-3 is 19mm diameter by 255mm Length + 50mm (XLR) = S-300 Kit

You want to be sure that the microphone be mounted centrally within the windshield, and not poking out into the end cap (dome) as this reduces the effectiveness of the windshield and its isolation from handling noise.
